Russian media, for several months now, have been reporting the expected increase of the <link - external-link-new-window "Opens external link in new window">Russian Patent and Trademark Office’s </link>official fees by 2–3 times (for example, please see the linked story by INTERFAX, one of the three independent major news agencies in Russia, dated 27 July 2016: <link - external-link-new-window "Opens external link in new window"></link> — in the Russian language).

That information have been claimed to be originating from an anonymous source at the Russian Government.

On 29 November 2016 we had a meeting with the RUPTO’s executives who officially confirmed that the official fees will be increased in 2017. Currently, there is no particular information regarding the scope or timeframes for these changes. That said, we note that the RUPTO’s official fees have not changed since 2012.

The alleged reasons for the increase is the fact that due to the latterly drop of the ruble exchange rate, the official fees, if to count in US dollars, have decreased more than twice. At the same time, the Russian economy would obviously benefit from additional income from the increased official fees.
